Wilhelm Amsinck (born July 19, 1793 in Hamburg ; † January 4, 1874 there ) was a German lawyer, politician and Senate syndicate in Hamburg.

Life

The son of the mayor of the same name came from the Hanseatic Amsinck family, which had been based in Hamburg since the 16th century . After attending the Johanneum and the Academic Gymnasium , he studied law in Göttingen , undertook a two-year educational trip through Europe from 1817 and then settled as a lawyer in his hometown. In 1824 he became a judge at the lower court and three years later he was elected as in-house counsel in the Senate.

Amsinck made particular merits as President of several council and citizen deputations, including for the reconstruction of the city after the Great Fire (1842-46) and for the drafting of a new constitution (1848-60).

He also managed the drainage of the Hammerbrook as a prerequisite for its later development. In memory of this, the Amsinckstrasse there was named after him.
