Wilhelm Aschwanden (born December 18, 1969 in Langnau im Emmental ) is a former Swiss cross-country skier .

Career

Aschwanden, who started for SC Marbach , ran his first World Cup individual race in Silver Star in December 1991 , which he finished classically in 76th place over 10 km. At the 1994 Winter Olympics in Lillehammer , he finished 60th over 10 km classic and 56th in the subsequent pursuit. He got his first World Cup points in December 1994 in Sappada with 29th place in the 10 km freestyle. At the Nordic World Ski Championships in 1995 in Thunder Bay , he achieved 71st place over 10 km classic, 60th place in the pursuit and 47th place over 50 km freestyle. His best placement at the Nordic World Ski Championships in 1997 in Trondheim was the 26th place over 50 km classic. At the 1998 Winter Olympics in Nagano , 22nd place over 50 km freestyle and sixth place with the relay were his best results. In December 1998 he achieved his first and only top ten placement in the World Cup individual with tenth place in the 10 km freestyle in Toblach . His best results at the Nordic World Ski Championships in 1999 in Ramsau am Dachstein were 31st place in the pursuit and ninth place in the relay. At the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City he came in 38th place in the 30 km mass start race, 32nd place over 50 km classic and tenth place with the relay. In February 2004 he ran his last World Cup race in Oberstdorf , which ended in 46th place in the skiathlon .

Aschwanden was Swiss champion 13 times with the Marbach relay and four times in the individual. After the 2003/04 season, he ended his career.
