Wilhelm Beck (singer)

Wilhelm Beck , actually Vilmos Beck ( February 19, 1869 in Budapest , Kingdom of Hungary - December 1, 1925 in Chicago ) was a Hungarian opera singer ( bass ).

Life

Beck was the son of a Budapest manufacturer. Even at the young age of ten, his special musical talent became noticeable and after he had initially studied composition and piano playing, his voice was discovered by his teacher Hans Kössler .

Beck completed a vocal degree in Budapest and then went to Paris, where he studied with Jean Lassalle and Drosti at the Conservatoire National des Arts et Métiers .

He made his stage debut in 1892 at the Budapest National Opera , where he stayed until 1902, after which he only appeared as a guest.

He gave guest appearances in 1901 at the Vienna Court Opera , in 1908 and 1911 at the Grand Opéra Paris . Up until the beginning of the First World War in 1914, Beck was able to celebrate great success there as a Wagner interpreter. Between 1918 and 1921 he was often in Sweden, in 1921 at the Vienna State Opera, he also gave guest performances and concerts in England and Italy.

Often a guest from 1910, he was engaged at the Chicago Opera from 1918 until his death.
