Wilhelm Beermann

Wilhelm Beermann (born January 30, 1936 in Wattenscheid ; † August 5, 2020 ) was a German manager in the energy industry. From 1998 to 2001 he was CEO of RAG Deutsche Steinkohle AG and at the same time Deputy CEO and Labor Director of what was then RAG Aktiengesellschaft , Essen.

Life

Wilhelm Beermann, son of a miner's family, completed an apprenticeship as an industrial clerk at the Zeche Holland of Rheinelbe Bergbau AG in Gelsenkirchen from 1951 and worked in the local social affairs department from 1954 to 1969. He was also committed to the mining industry union and the Christian Democratic Workforce (CDA). After founding Ruhrkohle AG, he was head of the social affairs department at Bergbau AG Westfalen from 1969 to 1978 and head of the company magazine - information / press spokesman.

In 1978 he was appointed head of the housing sector, before being appointed to the board of Bergbau AG Niederrhein as labor director in 1984. In 1986 Beermann left hard coal and followed the call of RWE AG and moved to the board of the Rheinische Braunkohlenwerke AG . In 1990 he switched back to hard coal and was appointed to the board of Ruhrkohle AG, Essen, as labor director. In 1997 he also became Deputy Chairman of the Board of RAG Aktiengesellschaft, Essen, Vice President of the General Association of German Coal Mining , Essen and Vice President of the Mining Association. In 1998, when Deutsche Steinkohle AG was founded in Herne, he became its first chairman of the board and thus the highest boss of the entire German coal industry. He filled all positions until his retirement in 2001.

Beermann also served on supervisory boards. As chairman of the supervisory board of Daldrup & Söhne AG, he led the company to the Frankfurt Stock Exchange in 2007. Until 2019 he was also chairman of the supervisory board of Mitteldeutsche Braunkohlegesellschaft (MIBRAG) mbH in Zeitz.

Act

For his services to the German mining industry, Beermann was made an honorary senator of the Technical University of Applied Sciences Georg Agricola , Bochum, and in 2001 received an honorary doctorate from Dr. Ing. E. h. of the RWTH Aachen . Beermann's merits are also expressed in numerous honors. Pope named him John Paul II. The Commander of the Order of St. Gregory .

Beermann was awarded the Cross of Merit 1st Class of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany . On the occasion of his 70th birthday in 2006, the General Association of the German Hard Coal Mining appointed him honorary president in recognition of his services. Beermann was the bearer of the Bochum ring of honor . On the occasion of his 80th birthday, Bishop Franz-Josef Overbeck presented the committed Wattenscheid Catholic with the Badge of Honor of the Diocese of Essen in recognition of his diverse commitment to the good of the Church.

On June 17, 2018, the Ruhr Bishopric awarded the long-standing mining manager and committed Wattenscheid Catholics the Heinrich Brauns Prize , thereby honoring Beermann's "personal Christian testimony of faith based on the aims of Catholic social teaching", which deals with the history of mining and the development of the Ruhr area, according to the jury's statement. At a ceremony in the “Die Wolfsburg” academy, Bishop Franz-Josef Overbeck Beermann called a “reliable Catholic voice that shows: the Church is involved”. Beermann's example makes it clear that Christians did not believe for themselves, “but rather to interfere and help shape society”.

In addition to his professional activities, Beermann has been chairman of the Association Clinic of the Ruhr University Bochum since 2006, which has been operating as the University Clinic of the Ruhr University Bochum since 2008 . and since 2001 chairman of the board of directors of the Catholic Hospital Bochum . After the notarized merger of the Catholic Clinic Bochum with the Marien-Hospital Wattenscheid in 2014, the Supervisory Board of the Catholic Clinic Bochum was reconstituted and confirmed Beermann in the office of chairman.

As chairman of the supervisory board, Beermann led the football club SG Wattenscheid 09 into paid football for the last time in 2006. Between 1987 and 2001 Beermann was state treasurer of the CDA and member of the finance committee of the CDU NRW.
