Wilhelm Brandes (pharmacist)

Wilhelm Brandes (* 2. April 1834 in Hildesheim , † 8. July 1916 in Hannover ) was a German pharmacist , medical officer , botanist and nonfiction - author .

Life

Wilhelm Brandes was born at the beginning of the industrial revolution in the Kingdom of Hanover in Hildesheim as the son of the pharmacist who ran the Hildesheimer Löwenapotheke . He attended high school Andreanum and then learned pharmacy in his father's pharmacy.

As a result, he deepened his knowledge of pharmacy at the universities in Göttingen and Heidelberg . He then worked as a pharmacist in his hometown of Hildesheim and in Hanover. He was temporarily active as a pharmacy auditor, most recently as a medical adviser.

As a botanist, Brandes wrote the Flora of the Province of Hanover, which was published in Hanover and Leipzig in 1897 . List of vascular plants occurring in the province of Hanover, including their locations . The work received three supplements between 1900 and 1910.

Wilhelm Brandes was awarded the title of Dr. hc and was an honorary member of the Natural History Society of Hanover . He died after a brief illness on July 8, 1916 at the age of 82.
