Wilhelm Fabricius (forest scientist)
Wilhelm Fabricius (born May 8, 1894 in Freiburg im Breisgau ; † May 6, 1989 in Eberbach ; boy scout name : Hartmut ) was a German forest scientist and writer . From 1924 to 1931 the trained forester was an honorary federal leader of the German Scout Association as "Reichsvogt" .
Life
Fabricius was the eldest son of the Freiburg classical philologist and Limes researcher Ernst Fabricius . He grew up in a family close to nature. This and his membership in the scouts from 1909 influenced him to become a forester. While studying forest sciences in Leipzig and Freiburg, he specialized in planting exotic tree species; therefore he got a job as a forest assessor in Weinheim in 1929 , where he looked after the exotic forest , among other things . Fabricius, later head of the forestry department, stayed in Weinheim until his retirement. In addition to his professional activity, he was involved in the German Dendrological Society , of which he was president in the 1960s.
In the German Boy Scout Association, Fabricius was initially "Governor" in Baden after the First World War , before he was elected "Reichsvogt" in 1924. Under his leadership, the German Scout Association was consolidated again after the conflicts of direction of the early 1920s ( see New Scouts and Ring Scouts ) and was able to develop into the largest association of the Bündische Jugend .
Fabricius processed his experiences in the scout movement and in the forest in numerous books. In addition, he wrote numerous articles for dendrological journals.
