Wilhelm Fuchs (librarian)

Ernst Adolf Wilhelm Fuchs (born June 21, 1886 in Schmalkalden ; † August 8, 1973 in Göttingen ) was a German librarian and lawyer .

Life

Wilhelm Fuchs, son of the businessman Edmund Fox and the Wilhelmine born Happich, students and high school graduate at the school Bernhardinum in Meiningen , devoted himself subsequently studying law , economics and philosophy at the Universities of Leipzig , Marburg , Munich , Berlin and Zurich , the in 1915 in Marburg with the acquisition of the academic degree of Dr. iur. completed.

Wilhelm Fuchs began his professional career as a court trainee . At the University Library of Göttingen he completed his library training for the higher library service, in 1918 he passed the library assessor examination. Fuchs then took up an auxiliary librarian position in Göttingen, in 1922 he moved to the University and State Library of Münster as a library councilor , in 1926 in the same position at the Göttingen University Library, and in 1951 he was retired. Wilhelm Fuchs, who was a member of the Prussian Advisory Board for Library Matters from 1924 to 1926, took on a teaching position for legal book studies at the Law and Political Science Faculty of the University of Göttingen in 1946 , where he was appointed adjunct professor in 1950.

Fuchs mainly dealt with questions relating to the subject catalog , in particular the Göttingen real catalog, as well as legal bibliography.

Wilhelm Fuchs, who married Hella, née Tiemann, in 1919, with whom he had a son named Erich, died in 1973 at the age of 87 in Göttingen.
