Eric Wilhelm Steinhauer (born November 18, 1971 in Unna ) is a German lawyer , librarian and honorary professor who specializes in library law and copyright . He advocates reforms of German library legislation and the freedom to access scientific information and publications ( open access ).

Life

Steinhauer studied law , Catholic theology , political science and educational science at the Westphalian Wilhelms University in Münster and the FernUniversität in Hagen . During his studies from 1993 to 1997 he was a student assistant at the civil law chair of Hans Brox . He passed his first state examination in law in 1997 at the Higher Regional Court of Hamm . He was charged with a dissertation to a state-canonical Thread to Bodo Pieroth to Dr. jur. PhD in Münster. His career as a librarian began with a library traineeship at the Freiburg University Library and at the Bavarian Library School in Munich .

From 2003 to 2008 he worked at the Ilmenau University Library and from 2008 to 2009 he was Deputy Director of the Magdeburg University Library . Since then he has been the department head for media processing at the Hagen University Library .

He has been honorary professor at the Humboldt University of Berlin since 2014 and has also been teaching library, copyright and media law at the Bavarian Library Academy in Munich (since 2006), at the Stuttgart Media University (2008-2014) and at the Bergische Universität Wuppertal (since 2011).

Steinhauer supports Open Access and advocates so-called hybrid publishing , i.e. parallel publishing in printed form and as an online offer (available free of charge).

From 2009 to 2016, Steinhauer gave a Halloween lecture on the cultural studies of the morbid at Humboldt University every year .
