Wilhelm Hansen (born April 12, 1911 in Berlin ; † October 21, 1986 in Detmold ) was a German museum director.

Life

After graduating from high school, Hansen studied folklore, art history, ethnology and German at the University of Berlin . After the Second World War he came to Detmold and worked from 1946 to 1961 as a lecturer at the Detmold Pedagogical Academy. From 1952 Hansen was department head of the Lippisches Landesmuseum , from 1958 to 1976 its head.

His successor as director of the Lippe State Museum was Friedrich Hohenschwert .

During Hansen's tenure, the museum was expanded to include the Kornhaus (1958), Zehntscheune (1962) and Mittelmühle (1973) buildings.

In 1995 a memorial plaque was placed in his honor at the Kornhaus.

Awards

1968: Award of an honorary doctorate by the Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität Münster
1971: Federal Cross of Merit, 1st class
1978: Award of the title of professor by the Ministry of Science and Research of North Rhine-Westphalia
