Wilhelm II (Ostmark)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Wilhelm II. († 871 ) was margrave ( comes terminalis ) of the Marcha orientalis and count in Traungau .

Since the year 857 he ruled the Danube valley in this area with his brother Engelschalk I from the Wilhelminer family under the name of Pannonia. They were followers of the king's son Karlmann . The brothers fell together in the year 871 in the battle of a Bavarian-Franconian army against Greater Moravia , under Svatopluk I. The Slavic Moravians had revolted against the Frankish suzerainty. Her successor as border count was Aribo I , who was fought for years by the sons of the two fallen soldiers.
