Willy Kernen (born August 6, 1929 - November 12, 2009 ) was a Swiss football player and football coach . He played in the position of defender from 1939 to 1962 at FC La Chaux-de-Fonds . In 1954 and 1955 he won the Swiss football championship with the Neuchâtel team . In 1948, 1951, 1954, 1955, 1957 and 1961 he won the Swiss Cup with La Chaux-de-Fonds .

career

At the age of 16, the runner and Riegelback made his debut in the Fanion team at La Chaux-de-Fonds together with Charles "Kiki" Antenen , who was of the same age . The later long-time captain was never warned or sent off in his long career. Led by the Czechoslovak Georges Sobotka , "Pioncet" Kernen belonged to the two doubles winning teams of the Jurassians in 1954 and 1955. In the first two cup wins in 1948 and 1951, Sobotka still acted as a player-coach. Teammates Olivier Eggimann , Raymond Morand , Gilbert Fesselet , Marcel Mauron , Bernard Coutaz , Tony Ruesch and the outstanding offensive player Charles Antenen were high-performing teammates in the big days of FC . La Chaux-de-Fonds was in the era of success from 1948 to 1961–1961, the sixth cup victory was celebrated with player- coach Kurt Sommerlatt - attributed to the fact that they would combine game intelligence and playfulness, technique and hardness, vision and subtlety. When Germany played the first international match after the Second World War in Stuttgart on November 22, 1950, Kernen was part of the Confederate team. He also took part in the World Championships in 1954 and 1962 , but was no longer used in the 1962 finals in Chile. As a regular player at the World Cup in 1954 - he played two successful games against Italy and was active in the 2-0 defeat by England - he also played in the heated battle of Lausanne , when Switzerland lost 7-5 to Austria.
