Wilhelm Lohmann (writer)

Wilhelm Lohmann (also: Christoph Wilhelm Lohmann ; * in the 18th century ; † 1822 ) was a German writer , publisher and bookseller , translator and playwright .

Life

Wilhelm Lohmann appears in the 18th century at the time of the Electorate of Hanover and during the personal union between Great Britain and Hanover from 1797 at the latest. After initially working as an assistant in a bookstore in Hanover "at Ritscher ", he temporarily worked "at Hoffmann " in Hamburg . He also worked as a bookseller and publisher in Goslar and around 1820 in Magdeburg .

Wilhelm Lohmann published, for example, on the history of the city of Hanover , but also emerged as a translator, for example through the letter written from English by the ship lieutenant William Mackay to his father about the sinking of the Juno off the East Indies and the rescue of 14 shipwrecked people.

On the occasion of the visit of the sovereign, George IV , King of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland and King of Hanover, Lohmann wrote a poem published by the physician Heinrich Dittmer and died in the same year in 1822.
