Wilhelm Lohmeyer

Wilhelm Lohmeyer (born September 8, 1912 in Stieghorst , Bielefeld , † December 27, 2012 in Hamburg ) was a German gardener , plant sociologist and vegetation expert . Its official botanical author abbreviation is " Lohmeyer "

Live and act

After graduating from high school in Bielefeld, Lohmeyer trained as a gardener and worked as a gardener's assistant in a nursery. From 1935 Lohmeyer studied land maintenance at the Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Berlin , at the Philipps-Universität Marburg and at the Friedrich-Schiller-Universität Jena . During his studies he got to know the field of plant sociology.

At the suggestion of Reinhold Tüxen , from 1936 to 1937 he took part in research into plant communities along the Reichsautobahntrassen . From 1938 to 1940 he worked at the Research Center for Forest Soil Science . In 1938 he edited the vegetation map for the Heldburg Forestry Institute from a plant-sociological point of view. From 1939 to 1945 he was a member of the research team e.g. V.

After the Second World War , Lohmeyer worked at the Federal Institute for Vegetation Mapping in Stolzenau . This was in 1962 with the Federal Agency for Nature Conservation u. Landscape conservation in Bad Godesberg combined to form the Federal Institute for Vegetation Science, Nature Conservation and Landscape Management. From 1976 it was called the Federal Research Institute for Nature Conservation and Landscape Ecology , and since 1993 it has been the Federal Agency for Nature Conservation .

In 1975 Lohmeyer retired.

Honors

In 1988 Lohmeyer was awarded an honorary doctorate from the Technical University of Berlin . He received this award for his achievements in the field of vegetation science and its application in nature and environmental protection.

Lohmeyer was also awarded the silver plant from the Loki Schmidt Foundation .
