Wilhelm Pfeiffer (veterinarian)

Friedrich Wilhelm Pfeiffer (born July 16, 1867 in Leubus ; † March 18, 1959 in Gießen ) was a German veterinarian and university professor in Gießen .

Life

Pfeiffer studied veterinary medicine at the veterinary universities in Stuttgart and Berlin from 1887 to 1892 . In October 1894 he became an assistant and in October 1896 a tutor at the Surgical Clinic of the Veterinary University in Berlin. At the same time he studied natural sciences at the University of Berlin from 1994 to 1899 , where he received his PhD in 1899. phil. received his doctorate.

He was a member of the RSC Corps Franconia Berlin (now Kaiserslautern) and Suevia .

In 1899 he succeeded Johann Georg Pflug as full professor of veterinary medicine and director of the animal hospital at the University of Giessen. He built the veterinary institute into an independent faculty (1914) with an expanded faculty and own buildings. Between 1900 and 1914 he was six times chairman of the Veterinary Medical College at the United Medical Faculty and then six times Dean of the Veterinary Medical Faculty. In 1935 he retired. As emeritus he participated in the apprenticeship again from 1939 to 1942 and from 1947 to 1949.

Pfeiffer was a committed arms student all his life and promoted the corps in Giessen.
