The Association for Corporate Student History Research is an academic history association dedicated to university and student history. The focus is on the history of student associations in Central Europe. With almost 1,300 members (June 2017) it is one of the largest associations of its kind.

History and task

The association was founded in 1955 by the later honorary chairmen Erich Bauer and Robert Paschke . Its purpose was to “research the cultural history of the German high schools and their academic citizens, in particular the history of the German corps , and to publish the results”. He was also supposed to promote the corps student collections in the Institute for Higher Education at the University of Würzburg and bring together the groups interested in these tasks. Although founded by old men of the Kösener Seniors Convents Association (KSCV), the VfcG has from the beginning attached importance to the fact that membership is not tied to membership in a student association or a student corporation. This also applies to the authors of the yearbook Einst und Now and requires a wide range of topics from the entire history of students, including fiction, art and source research. The public annual meetings take place every year on the Wednesday before Pentecost at the Rudelsburg near Bad Kösen.

Then and now

Since it was founded, the association has published 64 volumes and 16 special issues and special volumes of its yearbook Einst und Jetzt , 20 volumes and 3 special volumes under the current editorial management. The yearbook is available in numerous academic libraries under ISSN  0420-8870 . The contributions deal with student customs , student songs , scale and duels , heraldry , fine arts and fiction , architecture , monuments and sources (family records, archives of corporations and universities). Biographies, cultural , social and contemporary history (Enlightenment, national movement, Weimar Republic, Third Reich) in the student context of corporate life are increasingly coming to the fore. University and student history of the early modern and modern times - also on the fringes of the German cultural area (Baltic States, Poland, Bohemia and Moravia, Hungary, Spain, United States) - have always been included in the yearbooks. Many authors are specialist historians or represent rare specialties. In 2013, the now out of print special volume Blätter der Memories (Schmiedeberg) was published . Volume 61 (2016) - focused by the Institute for Higher Education at the University of Würzburg - focuses on the topic of Jewish corporations in the former German-speaking area, which has so far been neglected.

Editor

The yearbook has so far been edited by six editors:
