Wilhelm Porttmann

Wilhelm Porttmann (* 1819 in Düsseldorf ; † December 18, 1893 there ) was a German landscape painter .

Life

Porttmann studied from 1842 to 1846 at the Royal Prussian Art Academy in Düsseldorf and was a student of Johann Wilhelm Schirmer . His work, which he mainly devoted to depicting mountain landscapes, was influenced by the Düsseldorf School . His pictures were in the Kaiser-Friedrich-Museum in Görlitz and in the painting collection Mainz, today the State Museum . Porttmann was a member of the Malkasten artists' association .

His son or brother Carl was also a painter.

  • Gebrigslandschaft (1847) Municipal Picture Gallery Mainz.
  • The Susten glacier , the Kriml waterfall near Tyrol and Das Thal S. Martin in Switzerland (around 1855).
  • After the thunderstorm (exhibited at the 1st international art exhibition in the Royal Glass Palace in Munich, 1869)
