Wilhelm von Raven (born May 29, 1770 in Groß-Holtzendorf, Uckermark , † March 21, 1836 in Schlawe ) was a Prussian colonel and knight of the order Pour le Mérite .

Life

He was the son of the Prussian second lieutenant Gustav Ludwig von Raven (1748–1814), lord of Groß-Holtzendorf with Ravenslust and Schönwerder, and his wife Friederike, née von Wedel (1749–1793). His younger brother was the Prussian staff assistant master and knight of the order Pour le Mérite Werner Alborus Küneke von Raven (1784-1814). He was married to Luise Thorwesten (1784–1871) since 1804. There were three children from this marriage, including the Prussian Major General Eduard von Raven (1807–1864), who fell at Düppel in 1864 . Wilhelm von Raven died on March 21, 1836 in Schlawe , Pomerania .

Military career

Raven, although his father's firstborn, entered the Prussian army to become a professional soldier. He served with the hussars , took part with his regiment , the Blücher Hussars , in the First Coalition War against revolutionary France and received the order Pour le Mérite on June 8, 1794 as a second lieutenant. He also acquired the Iron Cross 1st class. Most recently he was in command of the 7th Uhlan Regiment as a colonel .
