Willem Lenssinck (born April 21, 1947 in Woerden , Netherlands ) is a Dutch-German sculptor and designer .

life and work

The son of a Dutch father and a German mother, Lenssinck grew up in Harmelen in the Netherlands. At the beginning of 1950 the family moved to Utrecht , where Lenssinck then also attended the Art Academy (HKU). In the year of his graduation in 1969, his teachers recommended him to Royal Delft and hired him as a designer for industrial building ceramics.

Lenssinck has been self-employed since 1972 and carried out numerous public contracts in ceramics and bronze . The artist has lived in Langbroek since 1985 . In 2001 he married Catherine Laimböck-Vermeulen, the daughter of the painter Piet Vermeulen. Lenssinck is the father of Jeroen Lenssinck and the stepfather of Lia Laimböck, both also artistically active.

Lenssinck concentrates entirely on free work, the design of sculptures in bronze, nickel silver, stainless steel or aluminum as well as the design of furniture and light objects, whereby the sculptures are characterized by characteristic lines and smooth, highly polished surfaces. Preferred themes in his work are horses and machines as symbols of the technical development of the 20th century, female figures, guard figures and bulls, whose shapes often have a futuristic appearance. Since 2005, Lenssinck has also been using new 3D methods in design to overcome the technical limitations of traditional plastic plaster models and thus significantly improve the possibilities for changes of all kinds, such as enlargement or reduction. Willem Lenssinck's works can be found in the collections of the British Museum (London), Museum Beelden aan Zee (Scheveningen), Museum Buitenplaats (Eelde), the IHK Hannover collection, and the Silvio Berlusconi private collection .

In 1991 Lenssinck was awarded the Pieter d'Hont Prize for his artistic work. Since 1990 he has been regularly represented with his sculptures at the art fairs PAN Art Fair, Amsterdam and TEFAF (The European Fine Art Fair), Maastricht. At the end of 2015 he exhibited at the "Horse-Power" exhibition in the Louwman Museum in The Hague . In 2007 the monograph "Willem Lenssinck" was created on the occasion of his sixtieth birthday.
