Willem van Reijen

Willem Lodewijk van Reijen (born July 27, 1938 in Ginneken en Bavel , Netherlands ; † June 4, 2012 in Freiburg im Breisgau ) was a Dutch - German philosopher and sociologist .

Life

Reijen was born in 1938 as the son of a bookseller in Ginneken en Bavel . He studied philosophy, psychology , education and German in Leuven and Freiburg im Breisgau . In 1967 Willem van Reijen received his doctorate in Freiburg with a thesis on Immanuel Kant and Martin Heidegger .

From 1968 to 1975 he was a research assistant at the Universities of Stuttgart and Heidelberg. In 1975 he completed his habilitation in Stuttgart. In 1975 he initially took on a lectureship at the University of Utrecht in the Netherlands, where he was appointed to the Chair of Social Philosophy and Political Philosophy in 1985.

Reijen was honorary professor at the Albert Ludwig University of Freiburg .
