William August Shade

William August Shade , also Wilhelm Schade (born November 19, 1848 in New York City , † September 26, 1890 in Switzerland ), was an American portrait and genre painter from the Düsseldorf School .

Life

After attending school in Chicago , Shade, the son of parents of German origin, came to Düsseldorf at the age of 19 . He studied at the Düsseldorf Art Academy from 1868 to 1878. There Andreas Müller was his teachers in the Antikensaal and Karl Müller in the subject of art history, and he also attended Wilhelm Sohn's painting class from 1870 to 1874 , where he deepened portrait and genre painting. Because of his health, he went to Italy after his studies , where he settled in Rome . At the Berlin Academy exhibition in 1883 he showed a painting “ The evening. Old Roman Idyll ”, in 1888 it received an honorable mention.
