William Bird (lawyer)

Sir William Bird (* 1560 or 1561 in Saffron Walden , Essex ; † 1624 ) was an English politician and lawyer.

Life

Born as the second son of William Bird and his wife Maria Woodhall received his training Bird among others at All Souls College of Oxford University , where he enrolled on 28 November 1581st He had already been made a Fellow there in 1578 . He graduated with a Bachelor of Civil Law . In 1588 he received his doctorate as Doctor of Civil Law . He was admitted to the bar on April 27 of the following year. First he stayed at his alma mater and from 1591 held the post of deputy chancellor of the university. In 1593 he was Dean of All Souls College. Brid later moved to London, where he practiced as a lawyer between 1597 and 1615. He mainly dealt with cases from the law of the sea . After he had given up his position as a fellow at the University of Oxford in 1604, he settled at the Doctors' Commons . Four years later, he succeeded Thomas Crompton in the Parliament of England . There he represented the interests of the constituency of Oxford University . He also successfully continued his work as a lawyer. On June 23, 1618, Bird was appointed Dean of Arches .

Bird was married and lived with his wife in Walthamstow , Essex.

Awards

On March 22, 1617 Bird was beaten by James I to the Knight Bachelor .
