William Constantine Culbertson

William Constantine Culbertson (born November 25, 1825 in Edinboro , Erie County , Pennsylvania , †  May 24, 1906 in Girard , Pennsylvania) was an American politician . Between 1889 and 1891 he represented the state of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives .

Career

William Culbertson attended public schools in his home country. Then he worked in the wood business. Among other things, he shipped wood on the Allegheny River . Later he operated in Covington ( Kentucky a sawmill). In 1863 he moved to Girard. Then Culbertson acquired larger forest properties in various states, including Michigan and Wisconsin . In Minnesota and in his native Pennsylvania, he was also involved in agriculture. He also entered the banking industry and became President of the Citizens' National Bank of Corry , Pennsylvania.

Politically, Culbertson became a member of the Republican Party . In the congressional elections of 1888 he was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the 26th  constituency of Pennsylvania , where he succeeded Democrat Norman Hall on March 4, 1889 . Since he was not nominated for re-election by his party in 1890, he could only complete one legislative period in Congress until March 3, 1891 .

After his tenure in the US House of Representatives, William Culbertson continued his previous activities. He died on May 24, 1906 in Girard, where he was also buried.
