William F. Haxby

William Fulton Haxby (born October 3, 1949 in Minneapolis , Minnesota , † January 4, 2006 in Westwood , New Jersey ) was an American geologist .

William Haxby was born in Minneapolis and studied geophysics at the University of Minnesota , Cornell and Oxford .

Haxby created the first map of the sea floor based on satellite measurements of the surface. His later works document the formation of icebergs off Greenland , which then drift into the Atlantic .
