William Salice

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

William Salice (born July 18, 1933 in Casei Gerola , † December 29, 2016 in Pavia ) was an Italian product developer and manager . He became known as the inventor of the surprise ice cream , which he himself always denied and referred to himself as the implementer of the idea.

Life

William Salice worked for Ferrero from 1960 . The confectionery manufacturer had long been producing chocolate eggs filled with surprises for the Easter business for its local Italian market. Salice, who was one of the closest employees of the company owner Michele Ferrero , standardized the production and brought it to the market all year round so that, in his words, “we can celebrate Easter all year round ”. From 1972 the surprise eggs were offered in Italy and from 1974 also in Germany. The range was later expanded to include different colors, shapes and sizes. During his professional life, William Salice played a key role in the development and marketing of Nutella , Mon Chéri , Ferrero Rocher and the Milch-Schnitte .

In 2007 he ended his professional activity. With the money from the severance payment of € 400,000, he co-founded the Color Your Life Foundation . This maintains, among other things, a free educational facility in Loano for young people between the ages of 13 and 18. So far (as of 2016) the foundation has brought together thousands of young people with tutors . The latter included Nobel Prize winners and high-ranking business figures.

William Salice died of a stroke on December 29, 2016 and was buried two days later in his birthplace near Pavia.
