Willie Mtolo
Willie Mtolo (actually: William Bhekizwe Mtolo ; * May 5, 1964 ) is a South African marathon and ultramarathon runner .
In 1985, 1986 and 1987 he was second in the South African marathon championship, in 1986 in his personal best of 2:08:15 h. In 1988 and 1989 he won the national championship in 2:10:18 h and 2:13:13 h. In 1989 he finished second in the Comrades Marathon over 89 km, and in 1990 he won the Two Oceans Marathon over 56 km.
After the sanctions against South African athletes were lifted, he competed in international races. In 1992 he won the Enschede Marathon and the New York City Marathon . In 1993 he finished fourth in the Rotterdam Marathon , but did not finish at the marathon of the World Athletics Championships in Stuttgart . In 1994 he finished second in Rotterdam and in 1995 seventh in the London Marathon . In 2000 he won the Macau Marathon.
In the 2000s, he returned to the ultra-routes. He finished third in the Two Oceans Marathon in 2002, second in the Comrades Marathon in 2002, eighth in 2003, fourth in 2004 and tenth in 2008.
He founded the Willie Mtolo Athletic Club in Pinetown ( KwaZulu-Natal ) and prepared amateur runners for the Comrades Marathon together with Bruce Fordyce .
