action

It's been three years since the incident with the vampire Jerry Dandridge. Since then, Charly Brewster has been in therapy to deal with the terrible events. Its psychiatrist , Dr. Harrison, can now convince Charly that Dandridge was just an ordinary murderer and cult worshiper. According to Dr. Harrison only played the vampire story in Charly's subconscious.

Because of this statement, Charly Brewster has his life under control again and with Alex Young he has a current girlfriend again. Together with this he visits his friend Peter Vincent, the television presenter, in his apartment. Peter is still convinced that vampires actually exist. One day Charly sees a group of people with strange wooden boxes move into Peter Vincent's apartment building. Immediately his fear of vampires is there again, as the boxes remind him of vampire coffins.

Late in the evening Alex and Charly are together in a car and want to get intimate there. But both get into an argument because Charly sees herself being followed by a mysterious woman. So finally Alex Young goes home angry.

In the meantime the strange people have settled in Peter's Vincent house. And they are actually a vampire gang made up of Louie, Bozworth, Belle and the leader Regine. Louie is a werewolf and the daredevil of the group, while Bozworth feeds mostly on insects . The shrill Belle goes hunting on roller skates and Regine is a vamp par excellence.

The mysterious woman whom Charly Brewster is observing turns out to be Regine. Because when he is back home, Regine suddenly appears at his door. She can get in and begins to seduce Charly. But then Regine bites Charly in the neck and Charly passes out. When Charly wakes up the next day, he hardly knows what has happened. But he notices that the sunlight is causing him pain and slowly it dawns on him that Regine is a vampire. But he's already fallen for it.

Charly Brewster is slowly starting to turn into a vampire. But it can still exist in daylight. His psychologist Dr. Harrison noticed some changes in Charly. But this convinces Charly once again that the encounter with Regine was just a dream from the subconscious and now recommends that he go bowling and get other thoughts.

Charly follows this advice and meets his girlfriend Alex Young while bowling. Both are now making a date for the opera . When the appointment arrives, Charly makes her way to Alex. On the way there, he notices a black limousine slowly driving past him. Through a window, Charly can watch Belle and Regine bite his college friend Ricki. Charly Brewster decides to visit his friend Peter Vincent. Meanwhile, Alex is waiting for Charly in the opera. When, contrary to expectations, he does not come, she decides to go home. In front of the door, Alex meets Louie, who is courting her and offering to go to the opera with her. Louie was supposed to bite Alex and turn him into a vampire, but Louie falls in love with her.

To save his friend Ricki from the vampires, Charly and Peter go to Regine's apartment, where a party is currently taking place. In an unobserved moment, both can examine Ricki, but they do not discover any bite wounds on his neck. Nevertheless, Charley Brewster accuses the hostess of being a vampire, which she denies with a laugh. She is just a dancer and quick-change artist. Charly and Peter are calmed down now. But now Charly remembers that he had an appointment with Alex at the opera. So he decides to leave the party. However, Peter Vincent decides to stay at the party.

After Charly Brewster has left the party, by chance Peter Vincent notices that the hostess Regine has no reflection , and he realizes the danger he is in. So he leaves the party in a panic, but is followed by Regine. When she catches up with him, she explains to Peter that she wants to get revenge on both Charly Brewster and him, because the vampire Jerry Dandridge they destroyed was her younger brother. Regine takes on the shape of a bat and Peter Vincent hides from the vampires.

When Charly came to the opera, he noticed that Alex Young was no longer at the opera. He decides to go home. There he lies down in bed and falls asleep. Meanwhile Regine arrives there. She now turns into fog and invades his bedroom, where she bites him a second time. After waking up, Charly fills up, but he still calls Alex and apologizes to her by saying that he is pretty much upset about the vampires.

Peter Vincent is now holed up in his apartment and is watching TV. He notices that he and his show have been canceled and Regine is now running a new show. Peter now looks for his friend Charly and warns him about Regine. But Charly doesn't believe him.

On a later news broadcast, Charly hears that his friend Ricki was found dead. Then Charly decides to take a closer look at Regine's apartment. So after daybreak he goes to her and breaks into the apartment. There he finds the four coffins and Charly now knows that all of this is not a dream, but reality. He opens one of the coffins and sees Regine lying in it. When trying to stake Regine, she wakes up briefly from her vampire sleep and hypnotizes Charly, who now forgets everything.

In the evening, the werewolf Louie shows up at Alex Young's and wants to meet her. She refuses the offer because she already has a date with Charly in the library . When Alex and Charly meet in the library, Louis suddenly appears and bothers them. Charly and Alex flee from Louie and Louie transforms during the subsequent chase through the library and Alex realizes that Charly was telling the truth about the vampires. Alex can knock Louie out by pressing a bouquet of roses in his face. In the meantime the police have come to the library and arrested Charly for damage to property. Charly Brewster now has to spend the night in police custody.

But Peter Vincent also has problems: when he tries to stake Regine in front of the camera, he is arrested and taken to the asylum. Alex Young is now trying her boyfriend with the help of Dr. Free Harrison. But it quickly turns out that this is a vampire himself. If she tries to stake it, she is mocked. Alex hadn't struck hard enough and so the psychologist drives the plow deeper into his heart.

When Alex arrives at the prison, she realizes that she is late. In the meantime, Regine has paid a deposit for Charly and has taken him back to her apartment. So Alex decides to get Peter out of the asylum. There she pretends to be his psychiatrist, but is quickly seen through. But an inmate helps her to free Peter Vincent. Both decide to go to Peter's former studio.

Once there, they arm themselves with all the props from Peter Vincent's horror show at the time and get ready to destroy Regine and her gang.

In Regine's apartment, they both make a horrific discovery: Charly Brewster is also a vampire. But in order to complete his transformation, he must now drink the blood of a living person. In the apartment they both meet Ricki, who is also a vampire. Peter Vincent can kill this first. Alex, Peter and Charly (who refuses to kill a person) can still destroy Louie, Bozworth and Belle together. Regine is now trying to get away with the elevator. But Charly blocks it so that the elevator gets stuck. While Regine is furious in the elevator, Alex and Charly advance to her coffin. There they place wafers so that Regine can no longer use her coffin because it is now consecrated.

In the meantime Regine has torn up the floor of the elevator and is now trying to reach the coffin before the rising sun. She sees the hosts in her coffin with horror and furiously takes action against Alex and Charly. At the crucial moment Peter Vincent appears and with his pocket mirror he directs the sunlight onto Regine, who is now burning in agony.

Later, Alex Young and Charly Brewster talk about their future together over a picnic in the park.

reception

My Neighbor the Vampire has only had limited release in theaters. In the USA it was shown in only 148 cinemas. In Germany the film was only released on VHS in a cut FSK 16 version.

criticism

"Postmodern straggler of the vampire film, reasonably exciting as horror, amusing as an occasionally lively parody that plays subliminally with the erotic side of vampirism, but is exaggeratedly drastic towards the end."
