Willy Illmer

Willy Illmer (born May 7, 1899 in Dresden ; † August 24, 1968 there ) was a German painter . Illmer was a member of the Dresden artist group Die Schaffenden , co-founder of the Dresden local group of the Association of Revolutionary Visual Artists and a member of the artist group Das Ufer .

Life

Willy Illmer was born in Dresden in 1899. From 1912 to 1915 he completed an apprenticeship as a carpenter . Willy Illmer was called up during World War I and served as a soldier from 1916 to 1918. From 1921 to 1928 he studied at the Dresden Art Academy .

Illmer was a member of the artist group Die Schaffenden together with Erich Fraaß , Curt Großpietsch , Wilhelm Lachnit and Fritz Skade . Illmer went on study trips to Switzerland and France . In 1929/1930 he was one of the founding members of the Dresden local group of the Association of Revolutionary Visual Artists . From 1940 to 1945 he served as a soldier in World War II . During the bombing raids on Dresden in February 1945, a large part of Willy Illmer's early artistic work was destroyed.

From 1946 to 1947 Illmer worked as a teacher at the arts and crafts school in Leipzig . Illmer participated in the artist group Das Ufer . From 1952 to 1956 he worked as a lecturer at the workers and farmers faculty of the Dresden University of Fine Arts . Illmer was on the Dresden district board of the Association of Visual Artists of the GDR .
