The ship was built at the Lux shipyard ; the owner carried out the interior work himself. The launch took place on December 5, 1986. On March 14, 1987 Willy Schneider was christened by the folk and pop singer of the same name . The maiden voyage took place on March 14, 1987.
The Willy Schneider is normally used for charter trips in the Rhine-Main area . During the 2019 Federal Horticultural Show , it served as a shuttle ship on the section of the Altneckar , which is integrated into the garden show grounds.

The Willy Schneider is powered by two main MAN engines, which have a total output of 178 kW and act on two Schottel rudder propellers . It has a Mercedes generator with 95 kW and a Deutz generator with 44 kW to generate electricity .
