Wilson Creek is a small town ( town ) in Grant County in the US state of Washington . At the United States Census 2010 it had 205 inhabitants.

history

Wilson Creek was officially recognized as a local authority on May 8, 1903 . The community has strong ties to the agricultural economy that dominates the region.

Indians roamed the area around Crab Creek and Wilson Creek in the summer months in search of food. John Marlin and the Urquhart brothers settled the region in the 1870s. Lt. Tom Symons established a military transport route from Fort Walla Walla to Camp Chelan west of the city. Wilson Creek was opened by the railroad in 1892; the city got a railway base with an eleven-track locomotive shed . Zack Finney began giving first lessons in 1892. Wilson Creek School opened in 1894. A stream of immigrants reached the region in 1901. In the same year the city was parceled out. Eventually the city was incorporated into the county in 1903. Crab Lake was drained in 1909.

A larger stream of the same name flows nearby. Also near the city is Billy Clapp Lake , which was dammed up by the Pinto Dam , and is part of the large-scale Columbia Basin Project . After the census of 2010, there were 205 residents, 94 households, and 56 families in Wilson Creek. The population density was 82.4 per km ². There were 116 housing units at an average density of 46.6 per km².

The population consisted of 91.2% whites , 1.5% Indians , 1% Asians , 2.4% other "races" and 3.9% of two or more "races" . Hispanics or Latinos of "any race" made up 8.3% of the population.

Of the 94 households, 24.5% had children under the age of 18, 42.6% were run by married couples living together , 9.6% by single mothers and 7.4% by single fathers; 40.4% were non-families. 35.1% of the households were singles and 21.3% were single persons over 65 years of age. The average household size was 2.18 and the average family size was 2.77 people.

The median age in the city was 50.8 years. 20% of the population were under 18, 7.3% between 18 and 24, 14.7% between 25 and 44, 28.2% between 45 and 64 and 29.8% 65 years or older. 47.3% of the population were men and 52.7% women.

As of the 2000 census , Wilson Creek had 227 residents, 96 households, and 60 families. The population density was 88.5 per km ². There were 108 housing units at an average density of 42.1 per km².

The population consisted of 93.39% whites , 1.32% Indians , 0.88% Asians , 0.88% other "races" and 3.52% two or more "races" . Hispanics or Latinos of "any race" made up 2.64% of the population.

Of the 96 households, 27.1% had children under the age of 18, 53.1% were run by married couples living together , 5.2% by single mothers; 37.5% were non-families. 29.2% of the households were singles and 14.6% were single persons over 65 years of age. The average household size was 2.36 and the average family size was 2.97.

The median age in the city was 42 years. 25.6% of the population were under 18, 4.8% between 18 and 24, 23.8% between 25 and 44, 25.6% between 45 and 64 and 20.3% 65 years or older. There were 99.1 men for every 100 women, and 96.5 men for every 100 women over the age of 18.
