Wilson D. Gillette
Wilson Darwin Gillette (born July 1, 1880 in Sheshequin , Bradford County , Pennsylvania , † August 7, 1951 in Towanda , Pennsylvania) was an American politician . Between 1941 and 1951 he represented the state of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives .
Career
Wilson Gillette attended public schools in his home country and then Ulster High School and the Susquehanna Collegiate Institute in Towanda. In the following years he worked in agriculture and as a shop clerk. From 1913 he was a car dealer. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Republican Party . Between 1930 and 1941 he was a member of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives .
After the death of MP Albert G. Rutherford , Gilette was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC when he was due for the by-election for the 15th seat of Pennsylvania , where he took up his new mandate on November 4, 1941. After five re-elections, he could remain in Congress until his death on August 7, 1951 . From 1945 he represented there as the successor to Daniel K. Hoch the 14th district of his state. During this time, the Second World War and the beginning of the Cold War took place .
