The Windgällenhütte is a managed refuge of the Academic Alpine Club Zurich (AACZ) south of the Gross Windgällen in the Glarus Alps .
history
In 1905 the foundations of the first Windgällen hut, which opened in 1906, were created. The following year, on March 4, 1907, the hut was completely destroyed by a dust avalanche . The 70.5 kg hut cash desk was dug out of the rubble.
In 1908 the second hut was built, according to the plans of the old hut, with small changes and an additional protective wall worth CHF 3,000 . The inauguration took place on July 18, 1909.
In October 1986 an expansion of the hut was started, the inauguration of the hut took place on 2/3. July 1988.
In 2000/2001, expansion work was started again on the hut. September 2002 with an inauguration ceremony.

The Great Maderaner Round Tour is a multi-day tour that takes five days through the most intact mountain valleys in the Swiss Alps.
