The Mount Crosin wind farm is the largest wind farm in Switzerland . The wind farm is located on Mont Crosin in the Bernese Jura and is operated by BKW Energie . After the partial repowering was completed in 2016, it will have a total of 16 wind turbines of different types from the Danish manufacturer Vestas and an output of 37.2  MW . Around 70 million kilowatt hours are to be generated annually; In 2017, 74 million kilowatt hours were achieved.

history

The first three Vestas V44 turbines with 600 kW were installed in 1996, followed by another V47 with 650 kW in 1998. In 2001 two V52s with 850 kW each were added and in 2004 two more V66s with 1.75 MW each.

A major expansion took place in 2010 when eight V90s were installed. These have an output of 2 megawatts each. With these turbines, the nacelle is 95 meters above the ground; the individual rotor blades are 45 meters long. The turbines start turning at a wind speed of around 7 km / h and produce electricity from 14 km / h. The speed is variable and, depending on the wind speed, is between 9 and 15 revolutions per minute.

Repowering

Partial repowering measures took place in 2013 and 2016, as a result of which four older turbines were dismantled in 2013 and replaced by four new V90s. These are identical to the systems installed in 2010. During the 2016 repowering, the two V52s and V66s were also dismantled and four new V112 turbines with a nominal output of 3.3 MW each were built. This expansion stage went into operation until the end of September 2016. Repowering increases the standard energy capacity by 20 GWh.

The dismantled plants, some of which have not yet reached the end of their operating life after only six years of operation, are to be sold to new operators like the plants dismantled in 2013 and continue to be operated at other locations in Belarus and Kazakhstan.

business

The wind farm is operated by Juvent SA. BKW Energie holds 60% of the shares in this.

Electricity production

The annual yields rose sharply due to the numerous repowering measures. In 1997 about 1.8 million kilowatt hours were generated, in 2002 it was 5.2 million. From 2010 with 16.7 million kWh to 2014 with 50.5 million kWh, electricity production grew very strongly. The standard energy capacity is around 70 million kWh .

This corresponds to the annual electricity consumption of around 15,000 (according to other data, 20,000) households.
