Winfried Baumberger

Winfried Baumberger (born January 25, 1938 in Leipzig ) is a German industrial designer and university professor .

Life

From 1956 to 1962 he studied at the Technical University of Dresden , Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, the study ended, graduating with a graduate engineer for machine tools design. Since 1961 he has been taking part in courses given by Rudi Högner , who was a visiting professor for technical design at the TU Dresden . In 1962 he studied at the college for industrial design in Halle, Burg Giebichenstein , a. a. with Lothar Zitzmann , Albert Krause and Petr Tučný. In 1966 he graduated as an industrial designer.

After completing his studies, he stayed at Giebichenstein Castle; initially as assistant to Petr Tučný, later as artistic-scientific assistant, senior assistant, lecturer, professor. From 1975 to 1980 he held an unscheduled aspirantur in the field of aesthetics / design theory at the Institute for Art Studies (Irma Emmrich) at the Technical University of Dresden, Philosophy / Cultural Studies section .

With his dissertation on the subject of "On industrial design and creativity" he was awarded a Dr. phil. PhD.

Baumberger is married and has three children.

Act

Winfried Baumberger has been working as a designer for industry since 1967 , particularly in the field of mechanical engineering (machine tools, processing machines , welding technology ) and medical technology (technical aids for the physically handicapped and rehabilitation).

Since 1968 he has been teaching at the University of Industrial Design in Halle, Burg Giebichenstein, in 1976 he was awarded the Faculty Docendi, in 1985 he was appointed lecturer for product design and in 1992 professor for industrial design .

In addition, from 1974 on, he held courses on “Basics of Industrial Design for Engineering Students” at the Technical University of Dresden, the Technical Universities of Karl-Marx-Stadt (now Chemnitz again ) and Ilmenau . He gives lectures and leads seminars at further education events of the office for industrial design, the association of visual artists of the GDR and the chamber of technology (creativity courses - "inventor schools").

He is the founder of the working group “Design for the elderly and the handicapped” (later “Design and Rehabilitation”) within the Association of Visual Artists of the GDR.

From 1992–1998 he was dean of the design department at Burg Giebichenstein Art College in Halle. In 2003 he retired from active university service.
