Florian Ulrich Hufnagl (born November 11, 1948 , † December 31, 2019 in Munich ) was a German art historian and design historian.

Life

Florian Hufnagl studied art history, classical archeology and modern history at the University of Munich and graduated in 1976 with a doctorate on the life and work of the architect Gottfried von Neureuther . He initially worked at the Bavarian State Office for Monument Preservation . In 1980 he became the museum curator of the Neue Sammlung , from 1990 to the end of January 2014 he was the executive director of the collection. From 1998 to 2013 he was chairman of the directors' conference of the state museums and collections in Bavaria.

Hufnagl taught art of the 19th and 20th centuries at the Institute for Art History at the University of Munich and had been honorary professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich since 1997 .

He wrote u. a .: "Design is dependent on the cultural humus in which it grows and reacts to technical, but social conditions. North American trucks with their martial appearance have never left their continent. In South America, trucks look different, not to mention Pakistani trucks. "

Hufnagl died at the age of 71 from complications from cancer .
