Winfried Franzen

Winfried Franzen (born April 12, 1943 in Berlin ) is a German philosopher and university professor .

Life

Franzen grew up in Essen . From 1962 he studied philosophy and German and a few semesters of Romance studies at the Universities of Freiburg and Münster . In 1968 he passed the First State Philological Examination in Philosophy and German. He then worked as a research assistant at the University of Giessen . There he received his doctorate to become a Dr. phil. with the dissertation From existential ontology to the history of being: an investigation into the development of the philosophy of Martin Heidegger and in 1980 the habilitation with the work The Meaning of 'True' and 'Truth'. Analyzes on the concept of truth and on some more recent theories of truth .

Franzen began teaching as a private lecturer at the University of Giessen and also took on teaching assignments or substitute professorships at the universities in Bielefeld , Frankfurt am Main , Marburg , Karlsruhe and Cologne .

In 1991 Franzen went to the Erfurt University of Education as a professor and was part of the founding board of the new Erfurt University . With the integration of the PH Erfurt on January 1, 2001, Franzen took over the chair for practical philosophy at the new philosophy faculty of the University of Erfurt as a university professor . From 1996 to 2000 he was Vice-Rector for Studies and Teaching at the University of Education as well as expert reviewer for the German Research Foundation for Systematic Philosophy . Franzen retired on October 1, 2008 .

Research priorities

Franzen deals with the philosophy of the 20th century , especially with Martin Heidegger and the history of concepts . Since 1975 he has also been concerned with epistemology , from the 1980s onwards with philosophy of language as well as with practical philosophy and ethics .
