Christian Andreas from Biel

Christian Andreas (von) Biel (born December 6, 1740 in Braunschweig ; † February 17, 1805 ibid) was a German lawyer and a Mecklenburg squire.

Life

Christian Andreas Biel was the son of pastor Johann Christian Biel . From October 18, 1759 he studied law at the universities of Helmstedt and Leipzig together with his brother Johann Friedrich († as a student in 1764) . He finished his studies in the summer semester of 1765 at the University of Göttingen , where he is documented by entries in the register as a member of the Lodge Amicitia et Concordia (A. e. C.) of the Order of Concord . After completing his studies, he entered the civil service in Braunschweig and became a court judge in Braunschweig. In 1784 Biel was appointed a secret councilor of justice. In 1787 he was appointed dean of the collegiate monastery of St. Blasius . He held this position until his death. His successor in office was Friedrich Henneberg . Biel corresponded with Christian Fürchtegott Gellert .

In 1785 he acquired the former Negendank estates Zierow , Eggerstorf, Neu-Jassewitz and Weitendorf in Klützer Winkel from Adrian Wilhelm Pauli and Magdalena Pauli .

With a diploma dated November 12, 1791, Emperor Leopold II raised him to the imperial nobility . Christian August von Biel became the founder of the Mecklenburg noble family von Biel .

In 1795, Biel founded the Von Bielsche Endowment Foundation , which deals with the payment of bridal treasures . In his will, he considered, among other things, the St. Annenstift in Braunschweig.

The Mecklenburg property was divided between his two sons Wilhelm and Gottlieb , who set up the breeding of English thoroughbreds here in Mecklenburg.

His further estate, including books, maps, copperplate engravings, drawings, new perspectives and a Dollandscher tube , a telescope made by John Dollond or Peter Dollond , was auctioned off to the public on August 12, 1805 and the following days in the Brunswick cathedral mechanics.
