action

The two teenagers Judy and Carol are close friends. However, their friendship is put to the test when they both fall in love with the handsome Stephen Andrews. To make matters worse for the friends, Judy is already in close contact with Carol's brother Oogie. The anger disappears when Carol finds out that her father is probably having an affair with the classy Rosita Conchellas. Judy and Carol are now trying to save Mr. and Mrs. Foster's marriage. However, after considerable confusion and fuss, the two teenagers discover that Melvin Foster is completely innocent and has only taken dance lessons from Rosita Conchellas. The girls apologize to Rosita for the suspicion. Judy finally decides to return to Oogie and leaves her friend Carol to Stephen Andrews. Stephen Andrews indicates that he would like to be with Carol in a few years, when she is a little older.

background

The choreographer and later successful director Stanley Donen was responsible for the choreographies in the film . The film was created after a popular radio show of the same title that ran on various US radio stations between 1941 and 1950. In addition, a television series with Judy and Carol as the title heroines was created in the early 1950s, and a comic series with the young heroines appeared from 1947 to 1960 .

Whirling Around Judy is the first film in which Elizabeth Taylor, who had only rudimentary vocal training, had to sing. She can be heard here with the song It's a Most Unusual Day .

Reviews

"Good-humored family film with a lot of dance and music, which entertains entertainingly without going into the usual standard topics about teenagers, small-town idylls and middle-class families."
