Wissam Joubran

Wissam Joubran (born February 19, 1983 in Nazareth ) is a Palestinian composer , oud player and guitar maker . He belongs to the Arab minority in Israel .

Life

Joubran was born in Nazareth in Galilee as the third child of the oud farmer Hatem Joubran. His brothers Samir Joubran and Adnan Joubran are also oud players. He received his first lessons on the oud from his father at the age of 5, until he was accepted as a student at the Nazareth Conservatory. At the age of nine he gave his first public concerts with his brother Samir, and when he was twelve he gave concerts with his brother in Paris. In 2001 he was the first Arab student to receive a diploma from the renowned Antonio Stradivari Conservatory in Cremona .

Like his father, Wissam Joubran is an instrument maker and makes instruments for the Trio Joubran as well as for other musicians especially according to their requirements. In 2003 his first album Tamaas came out, which he recorded with his brother Samir. In 2004 the album Randana followed under the name Le Trio Joubran , in which the youngest of the Joubran brothers, Adnan Joubran, is also involved. The trio has since made guest appearances on international stages such as Carnegie Hall in New York . In 2007 the album Majâz came out, from which the soundtrack for the film Adieu Gary from 2009 by the French director Nassim Amaouche comes. The trio is accompanied by the percussionist Youssef Hbeisch on their latest album, which is marketed in Europe under the label World Music .
