Main focus of work and development

The Science in Dialogue initiative is committed to the discussion and exchange of research in Germany and implements cross-organizational communication for German science. In the first ten years, the focus of WiD's work was primarily on broad communication, i.e. projects such as exhibitions, festivals or competitions that addressed the general public and offered information about current scientific research.

New social challenges and trends have led to a strategic reorientation of WiD : The focus today is more on an open dialogue with citizens on socially relevant and controversial research topics. In addition, WiD has developed into a platform for the exchange of experiences between professional communicators from science and, as a provider of further training, promotes the willingness and ability of scientists to explain their research work to interested laypeople. WiD also develops, accompanies and evaluates new formats for science communication.

The projects of Wissenschaft im Dialog include, for example, the exhibition ship MS Wissenschaft, the student competition "Youth presents", the web video competition Fast Forward Science, the specialist conference for science communication, the European student parliaments, the citizen science platform "Citizens create knowledge", the crowdfunding platform Sciencestarter or the school projects Junior Science Café and Make your School.
