The former widow's house is located at Würzburger Strasse 39 in Ansbach , Bavaria .

history

In 1728 the first widow's house was opened in Ansbach at Würzburger Straße 39. The property consisted of 13 small apartments, 12 of which were intended for widows and one for a couple.

The construction was commissioned by Margravine Christiane Charlotte von Württemberg-Winnental . An archival source says that Baroness Maria Barbara von Neuhaus donated the financial means for this.

The widow's house was opened in the immediate vicinity of the Ansbach children's house and on its garden property, which was inaugurated in 1711 and offered space for 20 to 25 orphaned children. Both the children's house and the widow's house were realized with financial support from the Freifrauen Sophie Magdalena von Crailsheim and Maria Barbara von Neuhaus . Sophie Magdalena von Crailsheim also secured the further maintenance of the building through a fund set up especially for this purpose.

The former widow's house is now used as a residential building.

architecture

The building is a two-storey hipped roof building with a dwelling , which, according to the inscription on a component, was built in 1727. An inscription was placed on the north front of the house, quoting the second book of Moses: "You should not offend the widows / you will offend them / they will scream to me / and I will hear their screams."

The building with the file number D-5-61-000-556 is under monument protection and built over medieval predecessor buildings, which are independently protected as ground monument D-5-6629-0090.
