Uladzimir Pjatrowitsch Aleinik ( Belarusian Уладзімір Пятровіч Алейнік , Russian Владимир Петрович Алейник Vladimir Petrovich Aleinik * 12. September 1959 in Smaljawitschy ) is a former Soviet - Belarusian diver , who started in the 10-meter platform diving. He was able to win two medals each at the Olympic Games , World Championships and European Championships.

Alejnik learned to jump at the Dynamo Minsk club . He won his first international medal at the age of 16 and won the bronze medal from the tower at the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal . The following year he was able to celebrate his first and only title win at the European Championships in Jönköping , he became European Tower Champion. Alejnik remained successful in the following years. At the 1978 World Cup in Berlin , he won bronze behind Greg Louganis and Falk Hoffmann . At the Olympic Games in Moscow in 1980 , Alejnik was the favorite in high diving because his greatest competitor Greg Louganis was missing due to the US team's Olympic boycott. However, he ended up behind Falk Hoffmann and thus won the silver medal. Alejnik won two more silver medals at the European Championships in Split in 1981 , where he placed behind his compatriot Dawit Hambarzumjan , and at the 1982 World Cup in Guayaquil , where he again had to admit defeat to Greg Louganis. The Olympic Games 1984 Alejnik missed by the Olympic boycott of the Soviet team, he ended his active career.
