Dawit Hambarzumjan ( Armenian Դավիթ Համբարծումյան ; * June 24, 1956 in Kapan ; † January 11, 1992 in Yerevan ) was a Soviet - Armenian water diver who started in the 10-m high diving . He took part in three consecutive Olympic Games and won a bronze medal, he also won two European championship titles .

Hambarzumjan started diving when he was nine and started for the Dynamo Yerevan club . At the age of 16 he took part in the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich and finished fifth on the 10-meter tower. At the World Championships in Belgrade in 1973 and in Cali in 1975 , he was seventh from the tower. In Montreal , Hambarzumjan took part in the 1976 Olympic Games . He reached the final again from the tower and was seventh. In 1977 Hambarzumjan won his first international medal with silver at the European Championships in Jönköping . He celebrated his greatest sporting success at the 1980 Olympic Games in Moscow , where he won the bronze medal behind Falk Hoffmann and Vladimir Alejnik . Hambarzumjan was also successful at the European Championships in 1981 in Split and 1983 in Rome , where he was able to win the title from the 10-meter tower. Due to the Olympic boycott of the Soviet team, he missed the 1984 Olympic Games . In the same year he ended his active career. Overall, Hambarzumjan was able to win 15 national titles in his career.

After his death in 1992, the Armenian youth diving center in Yerevan was named after Hambarzumjan.
