Vladimir Petrovich Komojedow ( Russian Владимир Петрович Комоедов ; born August 14, 1950 in Nikopol (Ukraine) ) is a Russian admiral and politician of the KPRF . From July 1998 to October 2002 he was in command of the Black Sea Fleet .

Life

Komoyedov was born in 1950 in the city of Nikopol in Dnipropetrovsk Oblast . In 1972 he graduated from the Naval Officer College MW Frunze in Leningrad and then served until 1979 as a combat section commander of a small anti- submarine ship , as first officer and finally as commander of a small anti-submarine ship. In 1977 he attended higher special courses for officers. From 1979 to 1983 he was employed as chief of staff and division commander of submarine fighter ships in the Baltic Fleet . In 1985, after successfully attending the Naval War Academy, he became chief of staff and brigade of anti-submarine fighter ships and later commanded a coastal defense ship brigade of the Baltic Fleet. From 1987 to 1990 he was chief of staff and deputy commander of the Baltic naval base as well as division commander of submarine fighters in the Baltic fleet. In 1992, Komoyedov graduated from the Military Academy of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces and then served until 1997 as commander of the Baltic Mixed Forces Squadron, commander of the Baltic Naval Base, as well as chief of staff and first deputy commander of the Baltic Fleet. From August 1997 to July 1998 he was 1st Deputy Commander of the Northern Fleet . In July 1998 he took over command of the Black Sea Fleet from Admiral Kravchenko . At the time, he was the youngest admiral in the Russian naval fleet. He held this position until his dismissal by the President of the Russian Federation in October 2002. Various media blamed personal conflicts with the commander-in-chief of the Russian naval forces, Vladimir Kuroyedov . Health problems were officially reported. He was retired in June 2004.

Political activity

On December 2, 2007 Komoyedov was elected to the 5th State Duma and on December 4, 2011 to the 6th State Duma as a member of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation .

Komoyedov is chairman of the Social Movement In Support of the Army, Defense Industry, and Military Science . He advocates the extension of compulsory military service to a year and a half and supports the construction of a new Russian military-industrial complex . He speaks out against additional arms imports. He considers Russia's defense spending to be appropriate, but criticizes the unbalanced distribution of funds. As chairman of the State Duma Defense Committee in April 2014, he supported an initiative by President Putin to station a new generation of surface ships and submarines on Russian Arctic territory in order to protect the border and mineral resources.

Komoyedov is married and has two daughters.
