The Wodanstolln is a show mine in Salchendorf , today a part of the municipality of Neunkirchen in the Siegen-Wittgenstein district .

history

Wodanstolln with a faithfully built tunnel house

The tunnel was created from 1732 as a deep tunnel for the Heidenberg and Rennseifen pits . The name "Wodanstolln" originated in the vernacular, "Wodan" were the names of four pit fields in the area ( Wodan I - Wodan IV ), with which the tunnel, however, had nothing to do with. The tunnel connected the two mines Heidenberg and Rennseifen with each other, served them as an inheritance tunnel and until 1910 for ore mining . The tunnel was completed around 1800. In 1855 another mutation took place. From about 1925 to 1974 it was used to supply Salchendorf with drinking water. In 1944/45 it served as an air raid shelter.

The Heidenberg mine belonged to the Stahlseifen mine and was in operation before 1732. In the 1860s, 48 tons of brown stone and spate iron were mined. In 1920 it was shut down. The Rennseifen mine was also in operation before 1732 and closed in 1920. In the 1860s, 350 tons of brown stone and spate iron and 3.25 tons of copper gravel were mined here. The gear means divided into front , middle and rear racing soaps .

Show mine

From 1995 the Salchendorf local history association converted the tunnel into a show mine, which was opened in 1997. The 1.5 km long tunnel is accessible for 600 m . The colliery was rebuilt true to the original and houses a museum with numerous details of mining in the area. After about 250 m straight ahead, the tunnel divides, left towards Rennseifen , right towards Heidenberg . The part on the left was collapsed , the part on the right can be viewed on a special tour. Old mining techniques with mallets and iron, more modern drilling methods as well as other mining and conveying techniques with compressed air-powered machines are shown.
