Wohlbach is a district of the Upper Franconian municipality of Ahorn in the Coburg district .

geography

Wohlbach is located about seven kilometers southwest of Coburg at the western foot of the Hohenstein. The district road CO 12 leads through the village from Schafhof to Gossenberg , from which a communal road branches off to Hohenstein . A stream of the same name flows through Wohlbach, a right tributary of the Itz. In the village the Grundgraben flows into the Wohlbach.

history

It was first mentioned in a document in the 10th century. In 1180 Wohlbach had the place name "Wolpach". The name probably goes back to an adaptation of Wolfbach to Wolbach.

The village was on the border between the Principality of Würzburg and the Principality of Saxony-Coburg, or in the 19th century between the Kingdom of Bavaria and the Duchy of Saxony-Coburg . On the Bavarian side there was a hamlet of the same name.

Wohlbach has been part of the Evangelical Lutheran parish of Scherneck for centuries . A school house was built at the end of the 19th century.

In a referendum on November 30, 1919, one of Wohlbach's citizens voted for the Free State of Coburg to join the Thuringian state and 37 against. Thus, from July 1, 1920, Wohlbach also belonged to the Free State of Bavaria .

In 1925 the village had 125 inhabitants and 25 houses. On October 1, 1937, the Bavarian hamlet of Wohlbach, in which 35 residents lived in 6 houses in 1925, moved from Witzmannsberg to Wohlbach.

On January 1, 1971, Wohlbach was incorporated into Ahorn.

In 1987 the village had 281 residents and 71 houses.
