Wolf Dieter Englert (born May 4, 1942 in Heilbronn ) is a German mite researcher . He was director of the Institute for Plant Protection in Viticulture at the Federal Biological Research Center for Agriculture and Forestry in Bernkastel-Kues, now the Julius Kühn Institute .

Life

After graduating from high school in 1963, Wolf Dieter Englert studied German language and literature for one semester and dentistry for four semesters . In 1964 he became a member of the Corps Transrhenania . From 1965 he studied biology at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich . There he was promoted to Dr. rer. nat. PhD . From 1965 Englert worked during the semester break at the Commonwealth Institute of Biological Control, European Station Switzerland in Delémont . With a grant from the Canadian Ministry of Agriculture, he carried out the practical investigations for his dissertation there from 1969–1971. In 1972 he became a research assistant at the Institute for Plant Protection in Viticulture of the Federal Biological Research Center for Agriculture and Forestry in Bernkastel-Kues . In 1985 he was appointed director and professor of the Institute for Plant Protection in Viticulture. In 2003 he retired.

The focus of his scientific work was the development and validation of biological, biotechnical and chemical processes for pest control in viticulture . Particularly noteworthy are the confusion process with pheromones in the case of the grape moth and the protection of vines from spider mites through the use of predatory mites .

The Corps Marchia Brno zu Trier awarded him the ribbon in 1992.
