Wolf Jöckel (* 1940 in Berlin ) is a German author .

Life

Jöckel grew up in Battenberg / Eder in Northern Hesse after the Second World War . In 1957 he moved to Kassel . He graduated from high school in 1960, after which he did his 12-month military service . He then studied medicine in Heidelberg and Marburg . In 1967 he passed the state examination there and received his doctorate in 1970 . This was followed by training as a doctor for surgery and trauma surgery at the Hannover Medical School . From mid-1976 he took over a day clinic in Kassel, which was mainly oriented towards the employers' liability insurance association. During this time Jöckel was team doctor for the professional ice hockey team of the Kassel Huskies for over 10 years . In December 2000 he resigned from the Navy as a reserve flotilla doctor .

In 2008 Jöckel first came into contact with the Camino de Santiago as a mountain biker in Spain . In 2009 his first book was published on the Camino de Santiago on a mountain bike. A diary . In spring 2011 Jöckel survived a collision with a truck as a biker seriously injured. That was the reason for him to set out on foot as a pilgrimage to the Apostle City in autumn. Further experiences and encounters on the " Routa Jacobea " in France and Spain followed in 2012, 2013, 2015, 2018 and 2019.

His book ... and again the path was the goal was translated into Spanish by Fernando Mujico Caneda. In the current edition ... also in 2015 - through the Meseta , the author reports on his extremely strenuous journey through the stone and sand desert Meseta between Burgos and León . This book was also published in Spanish translation.

In his book Driven in the Sign of the Cross , Jöckel reports on the life of an influential family of winemakers from Treveris in the second half of the 12th century as part of a historical story . In May 2019 the novella The One-Eyed and the Blind was published , to which he was inspired in 2018 on a renewed pilgrimage along the Camino Francés . Effi Biedrzynski, a German Goethe researcher and journalist who died in December 2004, reports in her 'Das große Deutsche Novellenbuch' that Goethe, in a letter to Schiller in 1794, took the view that a novella was nothing more than an unheard-of occurrence. It must be told in the language of the people, and it must be used for entertainment as well as instruction. And this story is indeed unheard of. Two brothers from the Palatinate had come to New Zealand in different ways. The unusual: Frank, the younger brother, had lost an eye in an accident. His brother Thomas was blind within a few days after an inflammation of the optic nerve. Nevertheless, they fulfill their dream of making a pilgrimage to the tomb of the apostle James on the difficult and by no means safe route for them.

Jöckel completed his last pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela in September 2019. The author's books show that the respective sales proceeds will be donated to the Benedictine monastery of San Salvador de Monte Irago in 24722 Rabanal del Camino (León).

Jöckel has been married to the children's book author Roswitha Jöckel Nocke since 1969. The couple have two grown sons.
