Sonja Saltara at the Wave-Gotik-Treffen 2014

Wolfenmond was founded in Marburg in 1999 by Sonja Saltara and Christo de Marmedico as a medieval band . After a few appearances, the band expanded and has been touring Germany since 2000/2001.

history

In 2001 the debut album Mantica was released . In 2002 Wolfenmond split into two musical groups, the minstrels Wolfenmond (bagpipe music ) and the Ensemble Wolfenmond (hurdy-gurdy and shawm), the line-up remained the same. With the album Finisterre 2002 a new record company was found in Lichtbringer , which marketed the album and the band and organized their concerts.

With the album Wintersturm a new era of Wolfenmonds was ushered in. Wolfenmond has been with the Trisol Music Group label since that album . Not only historical songs were reinterpreted, but also original compositions were included in the program and on the CD. (e.g. willow wreath). The next album Flammenpiel & Schattenklang soon followed as a double CD.

Due to the fast sales of the first editions, re-releases of Wintersturm and Flammenpiel & Schattenklang were released. As a special feature, the album Wintersturm was upgraded as a double CD with a live recording of a concert from Koblenz.

In 2007 the album Sagas was recorded. Stories were presented that were told by the fireplace in distant Iceland on long cold winter evenings. This album was the first to be composed entirely without historical templates. Sonja Saltara wrote the lyrics. Only the intro and the song “Ymir” are based on the Icelandic Edda .

Wolfenmond reoriented itself in 2009 and has not only used historical instruments since then. Wolfenmond released the album Neumond in 2009 . This album shows how Wolfenmond has sounded on stage since October 2009. Neumond is a remix album. Only the first five tracks of the album are rewritten and remixed Wolfenmond songs from the pens of Christo de Marmedico and Tambor von Wila. The other tracks on the CD are remixes of old Wolfenmond songs by other artists such as ASP or Ingo Hampf ( Subway to Sally ).

Origin of the band name

The band name came about during one of the first appearances on an ice cold, starry night with a "Wolfenmond" in the sky.
