Life

Wolfgang Bauer grew up in poor conditions. Nevertheless, he attended the “Alte Gymnasium” in Munich and, in 1846, was the best in his year to pass the absolute exam ( Abitur ). After three years of studying in the academic years 1846/47 to 1849/1850 at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich , where he studied law as well as classical philology , and having passed the teaching examination in 1849, he became an assistant at the Wilhelmsgymnasium. From November 1852 he took over the representation in the 1st class of the Latin school (lower level) for Anton Linsmayer at the Maximiliansgymnasium Munich and was transferred to Eichstätt for the school year 1853/54 . With a resolution of January 31, 1853, the appointment as a study teacher followed. For a short time he taught at the universities in Kempten and in 1854/55 at the Ludwigsgymnasium in Munich. With a resolution of August 27, 1855, he was reinstated at the Wilhelmsgymnasium and promoted to high school professor on October 1, 1858. After he had taken over the rectorate of the grammar school in Landshut in the school year 1872/73 , he headed the Wilhelmsgymnasium in the same function from the school year 1873/74 until December 4, 1880. The new building of the library of the Wilhelmsgymnasium was on his initiative soon after his Planned to take office and was ready for occupancy in 1877. He died of an illness that resulted in repeated interruptions in work.

Wolfgang Bauer published textbooks and exercise books on the Latin and Greek languages, writings on Greek authors, on the organization and reform of Bavarian grammar schools and others.
