Wolfgang Baumann (2019)

Wolfgang Baumann (born August 26, 1966 in Vienna ) is an Austrian civil servant. From January 2018 to May 2019 he was Secretary General in the Austrian Ministry of Defense .

education and profession

Baumann graduated from high school in 1985 and then signed up as a one-year volunteer . Between 1986 and 1986 he was trained as a tank pioneer at the Theresian Military Academy . He then worked in the Austrian Armed Forces in various leadership and staff positions. In the Command for International Operations, he was the training manager for contingent training. In the Ministry of Defense he headed the unit for recruit and batch training.

He also studied political science and history / sociology at the University of Vienna ( Mag. Phil. 2000, Dr. phil. 2007).

From 2000 to 2003 he was foreign policy advisor to the Federal Minister for Defense Herbert Scheibner . From 2003 he worked in senior positions at the Army Intelligence Agency, most recently as a security policy advisor.

On January 8, 2018, Defense Minister Mario Kunasek appointed him General Secretary in the Austrian Ministry of Defense . He became known in public primarily through the instruction to hang his photo in the premises of the armed forces. This office ended on May 22, 2019 due to the aftermath of the Ibiza affair and the resignation of Minister Kunasek.

In the municipal council elections in Lower Austria 2020 , he ran for the FPÖ in Kleinzell and was elected to the municipal council.

For his achievements he was awarded the Golden Decoration of Honor for Services to the Republic of Austria .
